Petite Women Problems

Summer is my favorite season and it's already halfway over :(.  Outside of my trip to Panama, I haven't been taking full advantage of the summer (except chilling on my rooftop).  I plan to enjoy the rest of the summer days as much as possible.  Winter is right around the corner :(.

One of the reasons I love summer is because I love wearing pretty sundresses.  They're so easy, breezy, feminine, and flirty.  I love short dresses and maxi dresses alike.
Maxi dresses can be so glamorous with the right accessories.
But maxi dresses are not always kind to me.  I'm petite (5"1"), so most maxi dresses are always too long for me.  The average height for women in the U.S. is 5"5", so I guess maxi dresses are made for them -_-.  Luckily, I know how to sew and make alterations.  I can shorten a maxi dress if I really want the dress.  I don't always feel like it (especially lately).  It's not a hard process, it's just another step I must take when buying a maxi dress.  I need to make my own I guess.

I had to shorten the hem of this fabulous cut out maxi dress from BCBG.  It was on clearance during a store closing and I couldn't pass it up (it was less than $10!)!  The extra effort was definitely worth it because I love this dress!  I love the cutouts, the sheer overlay, and the sexy slit.  I can dress it down and wear it to the beach, or a festival.  Or I can glam it up and wear it to a glam event.  Peach isn't my normal go to color but I like the way it contrasts against my skin tone.  So it's a keeper!

I know many other petite women have this same problem.  I would suggest investing in a good tailor or seamstress.  It's not a good look when your gorgeous maxi dress is dragging on the ground getting dirty, or you're tripping over it.  If you're in the DC Metro area, I can help you out!:)

  1. That is a really glamorous dress right there. Worth so much more than the price tag -- and nice job with the alterations! Great pics!

  3. Your dress looks lovely, and you accessorized it beautifully. It must be frustrating to have to alter your dresses because you said you're petite, but you did a great job. I also love sundresses and maxi dresses, especially during the summer. I love the flowy look and feel when wearing them.

  4. Great to know you enjoy the summers and its a chance to explore a whole new range of dressing! Where we come from, the summers are super hot and some days it goes over 45 degrees Celsius :( For us the best is to move to a place which is cooler, if we can. So we are currently slow travelling in Himalayas :)

  5. I can relate to this! I am 4"11 and maxi dresses are always too long - I tend to avoid buying them because I can't alter them myself but your dress looks amazing - would never have guessed it wasn't made initially to fit you :)

    1. Yep! I've passed on many super cute dresses because of the length.
      Thanks you!

  6. I am more of a casual dresser, meaning jeans, tee and sneakers but I do wear dresses occasionally. My dresses are usually knee length. As much as I would want to wear maxi dresses, my body type is not the right fit. I love your dress though. It looks really nice on you!

  9. I am short. But as long as I am thin, it's fine. Now, I am short and fat. I look like a ball and it's hard to dress up. I have lost some weight, but hopefully, another 12 lbs more. :D Wish me luck!
